This past week, I introduced Josh to the glory that is "My Turn on Earth," the wildly popular LDS musical. He had never seen it, though I periodically break into songs from the show, so I made him watch it. We have a long-standing argument in our house about whether "My Turn on Earth" or "Saturday's Warrior" is better, and I think I finally may have tipped him to my side.
However, Josh is still adamant that the production value on the "Saturday's Warrior" film is much better, but I don't think it's fair when "My Turn on Earth" was filmed as a stage play in 1986.
Watching the movie again, I was reminded of how many times I've seen it before. It's been years since I've listened to the music, but I still remember nearly every word of every song (and a lot of the choreography too. . . did I mention I used to re-enact it?)
What do YOU think? "My Turn on Earth" or "Saturday's Warrior"?

I prefer Saturday's Warrior, but I think that's because that was the only one I had see growing up. I never saw My Turn On Earth until I was a teen so I was pretty biased. But I do own the sound track to My Turn on Earth....and I do NOT own the sound track of Saturday's Warrior. If that doesn't make it more confusing.
I also break into song but it's from Saturday's Warrior. "Hey Flinders, Yo Flinders, C'mon we've got to go Flinders! Believe us we're your friends." "Jimmy oh Jimmy don't listen to them, how can they say they're your friends." Ha ha.
I have never heard of this "My turn" I'll have to watch it! I do tend to break into song from Saturday's Warriors though so I'm sure I'd enjoy the other! It was fun seeing you the last two nights!
I vote Saturday's Warrior all the way!
My vote is also going to have to go to Saturday's Warrior. I watched both of them a lot growing up but remember Saturday's Warrior much better. My brothers and sister and I filmed us doing our own version of Saturday's Warrior. Haha.
Also, my uncle's second wife was the lady in heaven that sends people down to earth. We were pretty excited about that when they got married (but sadly divorced a year later).
I told Emily that the DVD of "It's My Turn of Earth" should say, "If you liked 'Saturday's Warrior,' but were turned off by its slick, Hollywood-style production, you'll love 'My Turn on Earth."
Emily's right though... it's not fair because DVD version of MTOE is literally a filmed stage play, while "Saturday's Warrior" is filmed on a soundstage (though structured like a play).
One thing I didn't realize: Lex de Azevedo wrote music for BOTH musicals. Craziness.
And, for the record, I do like the music from both. I probably lean toward Saturday's Warrior, though, because I've been listening to that music since I was a kid ("Sailing On" was always one of my most favorites!) and my sisters and I watched it A LOT.
Still, I've been singing "When you choose the very first step on the road, you also choose the last!" a lot during the past week! :)
