BNAT 13Wolf and Enjoli

If you have ever met me and Josh more than once then you have probably heard of the 24-hour film festival we have attended for the past 4 years. (Remember this, this, and this?) Well, it's that time of year again and our applications are done and submitted.

Each year the applications include some crazy questions and a required picture related to the theme. And this year's theme is "ThirTeen Wolf" (because it's the 13th annual BNAT, get it? No, seriously, do you get it?) So the pictures were Teen Wolf-related. We were told to either re-enact or re-imagine a scene from the movie.

This is what we ended up with:

How can a Teen Wolf get dressed without getting hair everywhere?

Being a teen wolf makes showering an awkward situation

Last year was the first that an optional video component was included. Remember this? Last year it was a video including the jingle for some Japanese cologne. This year it was one including a perfume jingle from the '70s. Josh did a lot of work for it. He even storyboarded the entire thing.

The puppets were my idea.

In Other News:
I'm in the middle of applying for internship, which explains why I haven't updated the blog in awhile. You can expect more of that. Sorry.

I'm Seeing Spots!

I put on some new bedsheets today. They really make me smile. I don't know what it is, but polka dots make me happy.

We have some different versions, including darker brown polka dots and reverse polka dot pillows. I don't know what made us decide on brown, but it's soothing. I would hate the idea of trying to fall asleep on red sheets.

(BTW the green pillows in the background are from a previous set of sheets that my mom bought for us when we got married, but they fit our old queen bed rather than our size-of-Texas king. I haven't yet been able to find good pillowcases that fit, and we love them a lot, so we keep them on the bed even though they don't match. We clearly don't care. Up until recently we were still using a queen quilt and mismatched pillowcases).

In Other News:
Josh is reading The Hunger Games and I think he's enjoying it. I've taken a hiatus from my 30 Books Before I'm 30 list because I have, sadly, become too busy to read for pleasure. I did finish The Book Thief today, which took me something like a month because it was mostly a bathtime book.

Also, in a neverending quest to decrease stress and try new things, I tried Moving Cupping courtesy of my acupuncturist. It felt... interesting... For a few days afterward it looked like I had been severely beaten, and I even freaked myself out in the mirror a couple times because I had forgotten about it. I'm not sure if I can recommend it, though I think it was helpful.

This is Embarrassing, but...

... I kind of miss hearing "California Gurls" on the radio ten times a day.

So I downloaded it from iTunes.

Yep. That happened.

In other news:
Josh is working on the post about our "Lost" tour, but he's been working the Hoodoo booth at the fair this past week (plus the post is really, super long), so it's not ready yet.

And I've started school and practicum, so I've been going to bed earlier because I have to be places by 8:30, which means I have to wake up by 6:30. The downside of bangs is that I have to wash my hair every day otherwise I look gross. My shower cap is looking very forlorn.

Finals are coming...

... but I'm not studying because I am too delighted by this blog, though it was weird envisioning this person as a Mature, Woman-About-Town (and actress on Broadway!), only to find out she is merely two months older than I am. I have forgotten that I'm slowly edging out of my 20s.

Though, in reality, I have always been a firm believer that I am much better with age. At this rate, by 80 I'll be perfect (I'm not sure whether that's slow or fast, but it gives me time for improvement).

In Other News:
I discovered a spider dangling from my sweatshirt after I took the recycling out (the Mountain of Packing Materials is receding). I brushed it off of me, then tried to squish it with a book. Squishing spiders on carpet is practically impossible, so instead I coaxed it into the book, then swiftly closed it! The next person who borrows The Girl Who Played With Fire from me is going to be surprised with the content on page 357.

Josh and Mercury (plus: being thankful for nerdy friends)

Josh took the cats to the vet the other day and we discovered that Mercury, our resident irascible fat cat has lost an entire pound (yay!) and that she has now graduated to Senior Cat status (being all of 8 years old now). When  Josh and I first started dating, Mercury hated him (probably because he would pick her up and pretend she was dancing), but in the past year or so Merc has really warmed up to him. Sometimes she will even approach him for snuggling! After bringing her back from the vet, however, Josh was sad to discover that they were in a fight. He texted me a few hours later when I was in class, though, because apparently she had forgiven him and they were friends again.

Tonight, this is what it looked like in the ShepAlder house:

Josh was loving Merc

Merc was loving Josh

Then Josh started singing "Paparazzi" and pretending I had caught him in the middle of a tryst. Mercury was clearly not amused.

I'm glad that they made up, though I'm a little jealous. Mercury was my only roommate for five years before I married Josh, and for a long time I was the only one she loved. Of course, Josh is the one that feeds her, so.... I understand.

In Other News:
I absolutely love new friends, especially when we find something in common about which we are both besotted. This week my friend and classmate Stephanie loaned to me her Wii copies of Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" and "Evil Under the Sun" and I got to loan to her a couple of my Nancy Drew games. It has really made my week! Plus, she told me about where to get free kindle books. (BTW: I have a Kindle now, but I will probably write about that some other day). I love making friends who are as nerdy as I am!

More Pictures of our Cats

When Mr. F was still a kitten, Josh captured this series of pictures:

Mr. F spots her prey, the elusive Pepsi Max....

.... plans her attack....

... then swiftly and inexplicably decides to nap.

Then the other day, I got this picture:

Josh with Mercury and Mr. F

You can sort of see in this picture how much bigger (and fluffier) Mr. F has become in the past year. She now outweighs Mercury (who is 8 years old) but at least five pounds!

In Other News:

My brother:

visited this weekend because I tried to set him up with my friend Nancy:

and we played Rock Band for several hours. I don't know how the date went, but it was fun hanging out with my brother for the weekend.

I Made You a Beard

We got these in the mail today:

These yarn beards are courtesy of the lovely Erin Dollar at imadeyouabeard.com. Josh asked her to do green and yellow so we could wear them to Ducks games (and, you know, around the house). Erin is from Portland, so we like to think that we're supporting a local artist.

This is what it looks like off the face:

She even color-coordinated the backs!:

And she included these cute stickers (and business card):

I can tell, you're totally jealous.

In other news:

I started watching "Persons Unknown." I'm not sure yet how I feel about it, since it reminds me a lot of either a psych experiment done by some grad student in 1940 or the plot of Saw II. However, it fills the hole in my Summer tv watching schedule left behind by the cancellation of "Happy Town."
